New Section
This section was created by clicking the ‘Add Section’ button that appears between different sections.
There are different types of sections, the one above is a ‘Headline’ section that is built up of a banner image with blocks on top.
‘Blocks’ are what Squarespace calls all of the different elements, such as text boxes, images, buttons etc.
This section is a ‘Blank’ section.
You can adjust the sections height and content width by clicking on the little option bar that appears in the top right of the section. If you can’t see this click somewhere on the top right of this white area, it should appear. The first icon is the edit button.
You can change the colour of the background of a section by clicking ‘Colours’ in the section editor.
Images & Spacers
The image underneath this text is sandwiched by spacers. These are special invisible blocks that help you with the layout of your site.
Editing the Spacer:
If you hover on either the left or right hand side of the image (needs to be towards the top of the image) you should see the spacer.
If you hover over the edge of the spacer thats nearest the image you should see a little arrow appear, if you click and drag either left or right you should see the spacer and image both change in size respectively.
Editing the image:
If you click on the image you will see the little edit bar appear, click on the edit icon.
If you click remove image you will see two options:
- To add an image (this will load your computer files for you to select an image)
- To search for an image (this will show you stock images you can use on your site)
Adding in blocks
Feel free to use the below blue section to add in some of the different types of blocks to get familiar with Squarespace.
To add a block click on the plus sign that appears above or below another block (such as this text block)
When selecting a block you can either simply click, and this will place the block beneath the plus sign you clicked or you can drag and drop it onto your page. When doing this you will see thin blue lines appear on the screen, these demonstrate where the block will be placed.
You can also drag and drop blocks once they are on your screen, like the two text boxes below.
(Text boxes merge when placed on top of one another)
